Hello dear AsianCannabis members,
today I’m sharing a detailed review of a product that is being “talked about” quite a bit among European and Australian growers: Dr. Schimmel S.M.T – Plant & Leaf Wash, which is frequently used for controlling spider mites, rust mites, and for leaf cleaning during the veg → early flowering phase.
1. What is Dr. Schimmel S.M.T?
This is not a chemical pesticide. S.M.T is a leaf wash that works through mechanical action:
- Destroys the protective membrane of spider mites
- Blocks spiracles (breathing openings) → mites dry out and die
- Washes eggs and larvae off the leaves
- Removes dust, honeydew, and light mold from the leaf surface
Biggest Advantage: No residue – can even be used during flowering.
2. Advantages from the Practical Test
- Quick results for light – medium infestations: mites significantly reduced after 2 applications
- Very safe – no leaf burns, no damage to flowers, no chemical smell
- Easy to use – mix with water, spray, wait, wipe
- Cleans leaves thoroughly – dust/honeydew completely removed
- Made from plant-based ingredients and organic surfactants
3. Weaknesses You Should Know About
This is not a “miracle product.” In the following cases:
Heavy Infestation (many cobwebs, curled leaves)
→ S.M.T CANNOT eliminate them completely
→ Combination with a bio-acaricide, Abamectin, or Beauveria bassiana necessary
Cannot replace an IPM program
It is only a leaf wash, not a systemic pesticide.
Requires repeated applications
Every 3 days over 7–10 days → to ensure full effectiveness.
4. Quick Comparison with Competitor: SV Biotech – MiteTech
| Criterion | Dr. Schimmel S.M.T | SV Biotech MiteTech |
|---|---|---|
| Mechanism | Leaf wash, block spiracles (physical) | Bio-extract, destruction of mite cell membranes |
| Safe during flowering | ||
| Effectiveness | Medium | Medium – Good |
| Organic Level | Very High | High |
| Kill Eggs | Yes | Yes |
| Handle Heavy Infestation | Medium | Quite Good |
| Cost | High | Cheaper |
| Technical Documentation | Limited | Clear (Thai brand) |
5. Conclusion
- S.M.T: Best for “safe leaf cleaning – gentle – usable even during flowering”
- MiteTech: Better for treating medium to heavy farm infections
