Autoflowering cannabis, which starts flowering on age rather than on day length. Where the trait comes from, what it costs, and why most of the standard advice from photoperiod growing produces a poor result when applied to it.
The trait is inherited from ruderalis populations and is a genuine advantage near the equator, where the day length never swings enough to trigger a photoperiod plant outdoors. It also removes the grower’s main lever: there is no vegetative phase to extend, so an autoflower that loses two weeks to a transplant shock or a deficiency never makes them back.
Two things follow, and they are the opposite of photoperiod practice. Plant into the final container and do not transplant, because root disturbance is paid for directly in final size. And heavy training and defoliation are usually a mistake here for the same reason: recovery time is time the plant does not have. Light feeding early, a stable environment and leaving the plant alone beat intervention in almost every autoflower thread.
