Today I’m sharing a detailed review of a product that’s quite “word-of-mouth” among European and Australian growers: Dr. Schimmel S.M.T – Plant & Leaf Wash, commonly used to control spider mites, russet mites, and clean leaves during veg → early flower.
1. What is Dr. Schimmel S.M.T?
This is not a chemical pesticide. S.M.T. is a leaf wash that works through mechanical action:
- Breaks the protective membrane of spider mites
- Blocks spiracles (breathing holes) → mites dry out and die
- Washes away eggs + larvae from leaves
- Cleans dust, honeydew, and light mold from leaf surfaces
Biggest advantage: No residue – can be used even during flowering.
2. Pros from Real-World Testing
- Fast results at light – moderate levels: mites visibly reduced after 2 sprays
- Very safe – no leaf burn, no flower burn, no chemical smell
- Easy to use – mix with water, spray, wait, wipe
- Cleans leaves thoroughly – dust/honeydew completely removed
- Made from plant-based ingredients and organic surfactants
3. Weaknesses to Know Before Using
This is not a “miracle” product. In cases of:
Heavy outbreaks (lots of webbing, curling leaves)
→ S.M.T CANNOT eliminate completely
→ Must combine with Bio Acaricide, Abamectin, or Beauveria bassiana
Cannot replace an IPM program
It’s just a leaf wash, not a systemic pesticide.
Requires repeat applications
Every 3 days for 7–10 days → to ensure full effectiveness.
