Welcome to Outdoor Growing

This is the board for growing cannabis outdoors. Share your outdoor growing experience here. This includes growing in soil, companion planting and adapting to a tropical climate. Companion planting means growing other plants beside cannabis to attract useful insects or draw pests away.

What to post here:

  • Outdoor growing techniques and seasonal planning
  • Soil preparation and soil amendments (materials you mix into the soil to improve it, such as compost, manure or lime)
  • Companion planting and natural pest management (controlling pests mainly with beneficial insects, clean growing areas and plant choice rather than chemical sprays)
  • Climate adaptation for tropical and subtropical regions
  • Protecting a licensed outdoor plot from theft and animals (fences, locks, cameras)

Translator’s note: Most outdoor guides are written for cooler countries. In Thailand and Southeast Asia, outdoor plants face daytime heat of 30–35 °C and very high humidity in the rainy season. They are also attacked by caterpillars, mites and bud rot. When you post, say how you handled these problems so growers in a similar climate can compare. If you discuss sprays, name only products registered with the Department of Agriculture (กรมวิชาการเกษตร). Use them only as the label says.

How to write a useful post:

  • Your province or region, so readers know your climate
  • The month you planted and the month you harvested, to show which season worked
  • The strain, and whether you started from seed or a clone
  • Your soil type and what you added to it
  • Clear photos of the plants and of any problem

Note: All cultivation discussion must comply with Thailand’s Notification of the Ministry of Public Health Re: Controlled Herbs (Cannabis), B.E. 2568. B.E. means Buddhist Era, so B.E. 2568 is 2025. Check that your grow meets the Thai rules currently in force before you start.

Translator’s note: This Notification was issued under the Thai Traditional Medicine Protection Act B.E. 2542 (1999) and came into force on 26 June 2025. It makes cannabis flower a controlled herb. Flower may only be sold with a PT 33 (ภ.ท.33) prescription. Advertising and selling flower online are banned, so do not offer flower for sale on this board. Official text: Department of Thai Traditional and Alternative Medicine. For a summary of the rules currently in force, read Cannabis Laws in Thailand 2026.
