Hello, fellow AsianCannabis members
Today I am sharing a detailed review of a product that is quite “talked about” among growers in Europe and Australia: Dr. Schimmel S.M.T – Plant & Leaf Wash, which is commonly used for spider mite and russet mite control and for leaf cleaning during the vegetative → early flowering stage.
1. What is Dr. Schimmel S.M.T?
It is not a chemical pesticide. S.M.T. is a leaf wash that works through physical mechanism (mechanical action):
- Breaks the protective membrane of spider mites
- Blocks the breathing pores (spiracles) → mites dry out and die
- Washes away eggs and larvae from the leaves
- Cleans dust, honeydew, and light mold from the leaf surface
Biggest benefit: No residue – can be used even during flowering.
2. Benefits from actual testing
- Quick results at low – moderate levels: Mites clearly reduced after 2 sprays
- Very safe – no leaf burn, no damage to flowers, no chemical odor
- Easy to use – mix with water, spray, wait, wipe
- Leaves perfectly clean – dust/honeydew completely removed
- Made from plant extracts and organic surfactants
3. Weaknesses to know before use
This is not a “miracle” product. In these situations:
Severe infestation (excessive webbing, leaf curling)
→ S.M.T cannot completely eliminate it
→ Combination with bio-acaricides, Abamectin, or Beauveria bassiana is necessary
Not a substitute for an IPM program
It is just a leaf wash, not a systemic pesticide.
Repeat spraying is necessary
Every 3 days, for 7-10 days → for full effectiveness.
4. Comparison with competitor: SV Biotech – MiteTech
| Criteria | Dr. Schimmel S.M.T | SV Biotech MiteTech |
|---|---|---|
| Mechanism | Leaf wash, spiracle blockage (physical) | Bio-extracts, mite cell membrane destruction |
| Safe in flowering stage | ||
| Effectiveness | Moderate | Moderate – Good |
| Organic level | Very High | High |
| Egg destruction | Yes | Yes |
| Severe infestation management | Moderate | Quite good |
| Cost | High | More affordable |
| Technical documentation | Limited | Clear (Thai brand) |
5. Conclusion
- S.M.T: Best for “safe leaf wash – gentle – usable during flowering”
- MiteTech: Better for managing moderate to severe farm infections
