Genetics and Seeds: Cultivars, Breeding and What a Strain Name Means

Seeds, breeding and what a cultivar name actually guarantees, which is less than the label suggests. Phenotype hunting, feminized and autoflowering seed, tissue culture, strain reviews, and the landraces of mainland Southeast Asia.

Breeder’s Lab is the working board: crosses, selection, seed production and the mistakes that show up two generations later. Strain Reviews collects grow-outs of named cultivars. Autoflower and Tissue Culture & Micropropagation each have their own sub-board because the technique changes everything downstream.

Two things are worth settling early. Indica and sativa describe plant shape far better than they predict effect, and the chemotype classification, which sorts plants by what they actually produce, is the more useful frame. And a cultivar name is a marketing label, not a guarantee of genotype: two packets carrying the same name from two breeders can be unrelated, which is why phenotype hunting and keeping a mother exist as practices at all.

Seed trading has its own sub-board under Marketplace and its own rules; genetics discussion belongs here.
